Project summary
Ethiopian National Media Support (ENMS), in collaboration with Protecting Independent Media for Effective Development (PRIMED-IMS), has organized three continuous dialogues on “Post-election Media Partners Dialogue in Times of Crisis” in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, from the 4th of August 2021 to the 4th of February 2022. The general objective of the post-election dialogue was to promote media partner networks for cooperation in an ongoing media reform and development.
Hence, the first dialogue aimed at identifying common challenges that the media has been facing and debating suggested strategies and approaches was held on the 4th of August 2021 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at Azzeman Hotel. The dialogue targeted 50 participants from various backgrounds, including journalists’ associations, networks, universities, media development organizations, representatives of the Ethiopian Media Authority (EMA), and national think tanks.
Dr. Abdissa Zeray, an assistant professor at Addis Ababa University School of Journalism and Communication, presented a paper entitled “A bird’s eye view on Ethiopia’s Post-Election Media Environment in Ethiopia” which was commissioned by ENMS. Also, Yoseph Mergu, from NEBE, Bruh Yihunbelay, from Editors Guild, and Gemechu Bekele, from Independent media analyst, presented “Media Cooperation and Performance: The Case of 6th National Election in Ethiopia”, “Issues of Media Reform for Peace Building and Networking”, and “Media analysis at the time of an election: Lessons learnt” respectively representing their institutions.
