Universal Day of Access to Information celebration in Ethiopia in 2020

ENMS has organized a national webinar on the International Day for Universal Access to Information (IDUAI) to discuss access to the information within the context of the COVID 19 crisis in Ethiopia. The IDUAI 2020 focuses mainly on the right to information in times of crisis and on the advantages of having constitutional, statutory, and/or policy guarantees for public access to information. With the motto “to saving lives, building trust, and bringing hope”, the webinar aims to initiate the formulation of sustainable policies through and beyond the COVID-19 crisis.

Access to information makes it possible for citizens to follow responses to the crisis, such as confinement rules, regulations of travel and schooling, virus testing, medical equipment supplies, and economic aid or stimulus packages. The panel was discussion held on how this was applicable to Ethiopia

Hundreds of participants attended the event by directly registering for the webinar. The event was live-streamed on official UNESCO social media pages and there was extensive media coverage of the event.
